Gov. Oshiomhole sues Federal Government.

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has dragged the federal government to the Supreme Court over what he called illegal deductions from the federation account.

The governor, who spoke while playing host to Mr Augustine Alegeh, President of the Nigerian Bar Association, urged the group to speak up against “the many illegalities being perpetrated by the federal government.”

“I have had to ask Chief Mike Ozehkome to challenge the powers of the Auditor-General of the Federation and the president to make deductions from the federation account, because the constitution as we understand it is clear. All monies must first be distributed. Even the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has its money deducted from source. This is unknown to the constitution. ALGON is just like the Governor’s Forum. How much we pay and how we maintain the forum is the business of governors. It will be ridiculous to ask the Accountant-General of the Federation to make deductions from the federation account to maintain the forum. There are several such violations which the Bar must attack,” he said.

Speaking on the crisis at the Edo State House of Assembly, the governor called on the NBA president to carry out an independent investigation.
“If the Edo Bar has not given you all the facts or the facts don’t appear comprehensive, it is to the extent that they have unwittingly made themselves parties to the case in a partisan manner”, he said.
