#2015-THE LEADERS WE SHOULD ELECT - Sirajo Mudi Kurfi

If Nigeria has been blessed by God with abundance of natural resources- land area, mineral, animal, water, forest resources not to talk of population, favourable climate, etc, yet we are armies of unemployed, poor and underdeveloped.

It is therefore imperative we strategize our leadership style and pick the person to lead us especially owing to the fact that Nigeria will be electing its leaders, come 2015. Late Chinua Achebe once said “the Nigerian problem is the unwillingness of its leaders to rise to the challenge of personal example which is the hallmark of true leadership”.In my own humble opinion a good and effective leader should be a man with a purpose. Someone who can identify a problem and will not let it go no matter what. This quality is very critical for there will be times when everything will desert him, only his iron will says “keep going”. Alhaji Maitama Sule the Dan Masanin Kano, also known for his eloquence, in one of his speeches on leadership, described a leader comparing him to a Fulani herdsman. When a Fulani man is leading his cattle, he will go through thick and thin across the country with only one purpose in mind, how to satisfy his cattle not minding how he fends. You will never see a Fulani man taking cover from sun or rain away from his cattle. Continue......

3 men have been arrested in Gambia for homosexuality, may face life imprisonment.

Gambian State Television authorities have disclosed that three men accused of committing homosexual acts have been arrested.

According to the Gambian law signed in October, it is an offense punishable with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

Report revealed that the arrest followed a security operation and the men have confessed that they are gay. However, their nationalities were not disclosed.

“We go around in search of suspected individuals and in the course of the investigations we arrested the men.

“They have confessed that they have engaged in these inhuman acts,” the broadcast said, showing the men whose faces were covered.

Gambia and President Yahya Jammeh face global condemnation over the country’s human rights record in part because of the law, which introduced “aggravated homosexuality” as a crime punishable in some cases with life in prison.

The European Union said it has withdrawn millions of Euros of funding from Gambia, an announcement that came as the mainly Muslim West African nation looked more to the Middle East for support.

During the broadcast about the arrests, the country’s National Intelligence Agency appealed to the public, especially parents and landlords, to help them stamp out homosexuality.

Okay, North Korea back online after 10-hour shutdown, USA declines from making any comment.

Key North Korean websites were back online Tuesday after a nearly 10-hour shutdown that followed a U.S. vow to respond to a crippling cyberattack on Sony Pictures that Washington blames on Pyongyang.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the Internet stoppage in one of the least-wired and poorest countries in the world, but outside experts said it could be anything from a cyberattack to a simple power failure. The White House and the State Department declined to say whether the U.S. government was responsible.

Even if a cyberattack had caused the shutdown, analysts said, it would largely be symbolic since only a tiny number of North Koreans are allowed on the Internet — a fraction of Pyongyang's staunchly loyal elite, as well as foreigners.

Though it denies responsibility for the Sony hack, North Korea's government has called it a "righteous deed" and made clear its fury over Sony's film "The Interview," a comedy that depicts the assassination of the North's authoritarian leader, Kim Jong Un, the head of a 1.2 million-man army and the focus of an intense cult of personality.

Update on North Korea vs USA saga- USA shuts down North Korea's internet.

Have you been following the Sony, North Korea and the US government saga? If yes, then it took a very interesting turn yesterday, if no then you should know what this is all about.

Sony Pictures released a movie called The Interview, a comedy about a fictional assassination of North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un.. North Korean didn't find it funny and hacked into Sony's computers, rendering thousands of computers inoperable and forced Sony to take its entire computer network offline. That wasn't enough, they then threatened terror attack on US citizens if Sony doesn't cancel showing the movie, forcing Sony to pull the interview from theaters and losing almost $200m. Then the US govt got involved and told Sony to go ahead and release the movie, that they don't take lightly to threats and promised to retaliate for the attack on Sony. It looks like they've kept their to promise. North Korea is currently offline. Continue

Jaycee Chan, Jackie Chan's son formally charged with drug offense.

China’s state prosecutor said on Monday it had formally charged Jaycee Chan, son of kung fu movie star Jackie Chan, with a drug offense, meaning he is almost certain to face trial.

The younger Chan, a 32-year-old actor and singer, was arrested in Beijing this year after testing positive for marijuana, with police saying they found 100 grams of the drug at his home.

In a brief statement on its official micro blog, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said it had begun legal proceedings against him for “the crime of sheltering others to take drugs”.

It did not elaborate.

President Xi Jinping said in June that China would “harshly crack down” on narcotics, state media reported.

Action and comedy star Jackie Chan, 60, served as a goodwill spokesman for the China National Anti-Drug Committee in 2009, state media reported, promoting anti-drug education.

Jaycee Chan was not available for comment. In August, his father offered the public a “deep bow of apology” for his son’s arrest.

China has detained a string of other mostly B-list celebrities in recent months on drug-related charges, cases that have been publicised widely in both state and social media.

They have included movie and television stars, film directors and a prominent screenwriter.

Drug crimes carry harsh penalties in China, including death or life imprisonment in serious cases.

Illegal drugs, especially synthetic substances like methamphetamine, ketamine and Ecstasy, have grown in popularity in China, in tandem with the rise of a new urban class with greater disposable income. (Reuters/NAN)

Nigeria's Foreign reserve drops by $500million in the last one week.

Nigeria’s foreign reserve has depreciated by $544million in the last one week. According to Daily Independent, figures posted on the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN shows the nation’s foreign reserves stood at $35,740,495,640 as at December 11, but fell to $35,196,352,296 as at last week, December 18.

This fall in foreign reserves is coming despite the devaluation of Nigeria's Naira. According to the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, a large sum form the foreign reserves is being spent in defending the Naira from falling following its devaluation.

According to the governor,

“The CBN took the decision that it would be sub-optimal to continue to use up the country’s reserves in defending the Naira. This decision was right because neither the Central Bank nor the Federal Government is in control of the major factors causing the depreciation of the nation’s currency. In fact, the Russian Central Bank has abandoned its defence of the currency and allowed its depreciation, but only after it was said to have spent over $90 billion in defending the currency.”.

I show off my wealth to motivate boys for street, Wizkid reveals in recent interview.

In a recent interview, Wizkid opens up on alot of things. His relationship status, money, investment, etc. But the one that really got my attention is what he said about showing off his wealth on social media. He said he does it to motivate boys on the street, remembering he came from there. His message is, "if he made it, then anybody on the street can make it".
Read excerpt from the interview below:

Talking about investment, where are you sinking your money?
Properties and jewellery… I don’t spend money on stupid things. I just try as much as possible to do me. I’m a grown man. I have problems too. I have a child I’m taking care of. I have responsibilities too, believe it or not.

#MerryChristmas -Get some really interesting Christmas holiday tips from President Barrack Obama.

U.S. President Barack ObamaCompliment of the season. Christmas is just few days away and most people by now, should have a detailed plan on how they want to spend their holiday season.
From hanging out with friends, spending quality time with family members, tripping out of the country or going to a fabulous holiday resort, there are an array of things to do this holiday season. Have you planned how you are spending yours yet? Whatever your plan is, you must catch a lot of fun and rest for the work ahead - 2015.
For President Barrack Obama it's going to be a "Quiet" one. Yeah, he's had enough of a turbulent time in 2014 as the President of the USA and a quiet holiday is just apt. He is hoping to achieve the quiet holiday in his annual winter getaway in Hawai.

According to News.com.au, The USA President touched down late on Friday at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, with first lady Michelle Obama, their daughters and two dogs on board. On Saturday, the family was to begin their two-week retreat from the hubbub in Washington on the lush island of Oahu. Holidaying in Hawaii, where the president was born and spent much of his childhood, has been a tradition every year that Obama has been in the White House. "Going into the fourth quarter, you usually get a time-out," Obama said. "I am now looking forward to a quiet time-out, Christmas with my family." He also wished reporters a "mele kalikimaka" - Hawaiian for "Merry Christmas".
Like President Obama, Nigerians like to trip to their base, where we come from, our village to spend the holiday. That culture is well dwindling down. But a great Christmas holiday tip is that it should be spent with family members and not away from your family. And like  I mentioned earlier, catch alot of healthy fun and rest a lot, you will need the energy for 2015.
Please share some holiday tips on the comment box. How are you spending yours? It could be the well needed holiday tip for someone.

A must read: Nasir Ahmad El-rufai has this to say.

I like to read on Politics and Political leaders especially of those I really admire for their obvious or hidden leadership qualities and achievements. Picking up 'The Accidental Public Servant' written by Nasir Ahmad El-rufai and published in 2013 was not a strenuous task as I really wanted to understand his person especially that many have come to misunderstand him in many ways. We have never met and i'm sure he doesn't know I exist yet, so the question of having him influence this is practically impossible.

My head have remained buried in the book since I picked it up, and information made available on the pages of this book are very revealing, interesting and more importantly provoking. It is a must read for all who truly have a dream and are ready to be steered towards working for a better and great Nigeria. I don't have all the time to give you any detail from the book here but I truly wish a good number of serious Nigerians will read it, the content is rich. Am sharing his conclusive statement for you here. It has changed everything for me and I hope it does for you too. #El-rufai has this to say: Click to continue

#PakistanSchoolMassacre: How fate spared Dawood Ibrahim's life, the only survivor in his class.

"It is better to be late, than to be a late". This is a very popular quote used to control speed on the road, but this quote is even beginning to make more meaning with Dawood Ibrahim's story. On this faithful day, Dawood was not just late, he was absent, a wrong that saved his life. He is not talking or showing any emotions. Read the full details below:

15 ways to be the change you want to see in Nigeria- Pt1

Re-posting this, in case you missed it the first time. Part 2 which will feature 5 more ways will be out soon. It is a must read for all, we all can make the difference.

If complaining were a course, all Nigerians will have a degree in it. If it can build anything, Nigeria will be a great Nation now, but here we are, in the same mess we've been complaining about. Many years later and my(our) complaining have brought us more to complain about. So here is the Game Changer, let's try it the other way. Instead of complaining, let's #BeTheChange and watch out for a different result. Albert Einstein said 'We can't keep doing the same thing expecting a different result.' And Gandhi really did help, when he said 'We each can be the change, we want to see in our Nation.'

We'd all like to live in a better Nigeria- Good roads, drinkable pipe-borne water, constant power supply, world class education, affordable housing, effective and available health care services, a Nation with visionary leaders, where all our socio-economic needs are met etc. I'd love that too, and yes our New Nigeria dream will be fulfilled.

With that in mind, let's begin to walk towards our dream, one step at a time with these 15 easy, super-doable things we can all do everyday to make Nigeria slightly better.

1. Daily thank God for Nigeria- As simple as it sounds, how many Nigerians wake up everyday and say thank you God for my home- Nigeria. As bad as Nigeria seems, it still provide a space on this universe where you call your Nation. Inspite of the things that are not working, they are a several others that are working. The success Nigeria achieved with Ebola control, ensuring that it didn't get to your door step is just one of the several reasons we have to thank God for our dear country Nigeria. For those of us who are dreamers and believers in Nigeria, we see and acknowledge a lot of good in the country and we are mindful to wake up daily and thank God for her. That can make alot of difference. #ProudToBeANigeria. Continue

#DoyinOkupesays - "President Jonathan is like Jesus Christ". How?

Okay, it's cool to do your job Mr. Okupe but saying President Jonathan is like Jesus Christ is a little over exaggurated. The Presidential aid in an interview on Channels TV programme Sunrise Daily this morning Dec. 15th, likened President Jonathan to Jesus Christ. He made the statement while trying to make a case for the President. Read the comment below:

"People do not understand the burden this president is bearing. He’s like Jesus Christ. He’s bearing the burden of everybody” Okupe said.

Is there anyone who agrees with this statement? Jesus sacrificed his life for the people, what sacrifice have the President made for the people of Nigeria? #Justthinking.

#SelfMaximization - How to stop giving your power away by Morgan Mckean.

For those of you who don't know yet, I peep into Morgan Mckean's blog from time to time to read on her very vital life coach material and feature highly motivating ones on my blog. I believe we all should be the best us and to achieve that we need to feed on vital information that will build us and safe us from self destruct. Warning: Be careful with your maid, a maid in Abuja have strangled a 3 year old girl, read details here

We are sure in dangerous times and we all need to be careful both on the street and in our homes too. Read this story in LIB and it is worth sharing to my viewers. Very touching story that goes to say we should all be careful. Read it below:

Parents please be careful with the kind of people you bring around your children. It is your responsibility to protect them. I know with work and other engagements it is almost impossible not to have someone to help with the kids but make sure it's someone you can trust with the lives of your children. Last month, we all watched in horror as a Ugandan maid battered a 2 year old girl.

This week we heard about the maid who took two young boys from their home in Lagos after just a few weeks of working with the family. And I just heard about a maid in Abuja who strangled a 3 year old girl recently just because the girl's mum told her she couldn't travel to her village for Christmas.

The disappointed maid was said to have killed the little girl in anger because the girl's mother had insisted she had to stay in Abuja to look after the child. Please mothers, be more careful.
