A man gets jail sentence for a traffic offence in Enugu State.

The mobile court of the Federal Road Safety Commission in Enugu has jailed a traffic offender, identified as Amaechi Ozor, for two weeks.

The Enugu State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. David Mendie, who disclosed this, said the traffic offence occurred on Friday.

Mendie explained that Ozor was apprehended for a number of traffic offences, including use of worn-out tyres and failing to wear his seat belt while driving.

He added that Ozor, who was driving a Mitsubishi L300 vehicle with registration number KR S1CXK, attempted to confront operatives of the FRSC when he was stopped. The driver was eventually arrested by the police and subsequently arraigned before a mobile court, which sentenced him to two weeks imprisonment, according to Mendie.

The FRSC officials added that 19 out of 21 traffic offenders who were apprehended in Enugu on Friday by a special patrol team were convicted by the mobile court. Continue......

Two others were discharged and acquitted, he said.

Mendie however explained that most of the convicted offenders were given the option of paying fines for breaching the traffic rules.

The FRSC Enugu sector commander stressed the need for motorists and pedestrians to have better knowledge of traffic rules.

He especially warned against driving under the influence of alcohol and using the mobile telephone while driving.

According to him, any motorist that violates traffic laws must be apprehended and prosecuted.

Mendie further urged motorists to be very safety conscious during the ‘ember months’.
