Bollywood actress named among Financial Times 50 most influential Women in the World.

Deepika Padukone
Financial Times has included Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone in their list of ’50 Most Influential Women in the World’. This prestigious list includes few of the world’s most charismatic persona and include First Lady, Michelle Obama, campaigner Anne-Marie Slaughter, writer Elena Ferrante, climate negotiator Laurence Tubiana, anti-corruption tsar Thuli Madonsela to name a few.

Deepika made her debut alongside ‘King of Bollywood’ and veteran actor Shah Rukh Khan almost eight years back with the movie Om Shanti Om directed by Farah Khan.

Over the years she has proven herself in the limelight of Indian cinema and rose through the ranks to become one of the successful and highly esteemed model turned actresses of Bollywood. She already has three hits under her belt this year in the name of Piku, Tamasha and recently released Bajirao Mastani.

While speaking to IB Times UK, she expressed her gratitude by saying that, “I have heard about some of the other women who might be featured and I do have to admit I do feel some sense of achievement having made it to that list. I don’t know what it is that I have done to be there but I think the only thing I can be at this point is grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and all the love that I have received over the years. The last few years have been very, very exciting and this year too with the release of Piku and Tamasha and now Bajirao Mastani in the same year, I couldn’t ask for more. I am extremely overwhelmed”.

Deepika has been praised by critics where she portrayed the role of Mastani, the second wife of the Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao played by Ranveer Singh in the film Bajirao Mastani. The film is directed by veteran director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is currently running successfully in India and other countries.
