Newswatch Ace Journalists set to begin the "SevenDays" Journey.

A new regional newspaper called SevenDays is to make its maiden appearance on the newsstands on Thursday, January 14th, 2016. Based in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, the newspaper is targeted at the Middle Belt states of Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Niger, Kogi, Kwara and Taraba as well as the federal capital territory, Abuja. The paper which will start publication as a weekly, nurses the ambition of becoming a daily national newspaper and the authoritative voice on middle belt affairs. SevenDays will report general interest stories with bias for socio-economic, political and sports news and commentaries.

SevenDays is being packaged by a crop of seasoned journalists who plied their trade at the famous Newswatch magazine, spearheaded by Mr. James Uloko and Joseph Ode. Uloko who was a Senior Staff Writer at Newswatch is the Chief Executive Officer, while Ode, former Editor of The Voice, former General Editor of Newswatch and pioneer editor of Financial Standard is the Editor-in-Chief of SevenDays. Nats Onoja Agbo, former General Editor at Newswatch, and Abdulrasaq Magaji, former Abuja Bureau Chief of Newswatch, are also members of the SevenDays’ team as a regular contributor and head of Minna Bureau, respectively. Lionel Agbaji, also a former manager at Newswatch, is on board as head of Operations.Other former veterans of Newswatch magazine, the rave of Nigerian journalism in the 1980s and 1990s, are also billed to write for SevenDays.

According to Uloko, the mission of SevenDays “is to fill the need of Middle Belt people for a professionally packaged, managed, pocket-friendly newspaper that will disseminate credible and timely local, national and international information from the middle-belt perspective”.

He said that the paper would owe no allegiance to any partisan political, ethnic, religious or personal interests but would, “at all times, be balanced, objective, fair and ethical in content and coverage. Ours will be a free market of ideas, opinion, and information aimed at educating, informing and entertaining our readers”.

According to him, SevenDays’ Preview Edition was published on November 21, 2015 and has received very positive and encouraging reviews.
