War On Terror: US Government donates armoured vehicles to Nigerian Army.

Representative of the Minister of Defence, Maj.-Gen Barry Ndiomu, inspecting US’ 24 armoured personnel carriers donated to Nigeria in Lagos.
In its commitment to boost the war against terrorism, the United States of America (USA) yesterday donated 24 mine -resistant armour-protected vehicles (MRAP) to the Nigerian Army.

According to Leadership, the armoured tanks were donated to the Nigerian Army at the Ikeja Army Cantonment in support of the fight against the Boko Haram sect.

The vehicles were said to be among those retrieved from Iraq and Afghanistan, two war-torn countries where America had been heavily involved.

US government said the Excess Defence Articles Programme is designed to transfer excess military equipment from the US to foreign governments or international organisations to help with modernisation of partner nations’ military capabilities.
While inspecting the vehicles, defence minister, Gen. Dan Ali (rtd.) said the vehicles will go a long way in protecting troops against Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and therefore help in the movement of men with little or no casualties.
