Burial activities for Alamieyeseigha begin today.

Activities marking the final burial of the late former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha begin today in Yenegoa, the state capital.

Disclosing this in an interview with the Guardian, former Commissioner for Information, who heads the publicity sub-committee of the burial committee, Esuene Dan-Kikile, said the late former governor, will be given a state burial befitting an hero of Ijaw nation.

He iterated that though the late ‘Governor General of the Ijaw nation,’ will not be buried at the Ijaw Heroes park, like the late General Owoye Azazi and Isaac Adaka-Boro, nevertheless, the state governor Seriake Dickson, has put in place all things within his powers to accord the first civilian governor a befitting burial.”

He explained that, “It is not that government would not have liked burying him there, but we are also taking into consideration the interest of the family and the community, and the new roles and status that will be given to that place in terms of meeting international standards.”

He added that “It was in the course of this that the state governor set up the burial committee to be headed by the Deputy Governor of the state, John Jonah, to oversee preparation, planning, logistic for the state burial,” he added.

As part of the activities marking the burial,
There would be a lecture on ‘Federalism and Development in Nigeria’, to be delivered by Prof G.G Darah, who is one of the finest scholars from this part of the country.

He said, “there will also be a night of tributes and we are expecting dignitaries from all over the country to come and pay their last respect to him in comments, speeches, songs, poems, poetry and many others.”

Meanwhile, the university town of Amasoma is already agog, as residents took out times to do an environmental sanitation on the township roads and major streets, made famous by the late Alamieyeseigha.
