Must Read: So You Think You Are Patriotic?

Hello everyone, been off blogging for a while due to technical issues on my system. Preparation is on top gear to get back soonest. Meanwhile here is a re-post of an article published earlier. Enjoy it below:

So you think you can dance is my favorite reality show. The show thought me a lesson that says the test of your ability to do whatever you do well by giving it your best shot. So you think you are patriotic, is an article that seeks to shade better light on what patriotism really should be.

Yes the true meaning of patriotism. Nigerians can get really patriotic, especially on Independence Day in October, Democracy day in May and the rest. Walk down the street in Nigeria and ask one citizen after another what patriotism means and with few exceptions, you’ll get a passel of the most self-righteous but superficial and often dead-wrong answers. Nigeria’s Founders, the men and women who gave us reason to be patriotic in the first place, would think we’ve lost our minds if they could see how we have watered down acts of patriotism. "Nigeria is fantastically corrupt." Before the completion of the statement by David Cameron, major foreign news platform already have it as their headline, but news about some great achievements of Nigerians will never get that buzz. It's time to think it over Nigerians, if CNN, BBC and the rest won't say it, we must begin to blow our trumpet, no one else will do it. This was a post done by a friend Bose Olaleye on facebook and it's so profound, read it below:

Saturday, 7th May, 2016 at Howard University in Washington D.C history was made. Out of 96 graduating Doctor of Pharmacy candidates, 43 of them were Nigerians and out of 27 awards given, 16 went to Nigerians.

Nigerians react to Deputy Senate President's question on what they think of Cameron calling Nigeria a corrupt country.

So this morning Senate Deputy president Ike Ekweremadu decided to ask Nigerians what they thought about UK Prime Minister David Cameron describing Nigeria as a fantastically corrupt country. Most people said Cameron is #Fantasticallyright but more interesting is that him and his party, PDP were accused of being the reason Cameron would describe Nigeria in that manner. See the responses after the cut and tell me who looked for trouble abeg...........

Gov. Fayose voice out his ambition to be the next Vice President of Nigeria.

Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, says he is qualified to be the running mate of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019. The two-term governor said this during the May edition of ‘Meet Your Governor’ his monthly media chat.

Fayose, who is known to have influenced the emergence of Ali Modu Sheriff as the national chairman of the party, said Sheriff will continue to preside over the party till the next general election.

“Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is the PDP chairman and he is going to continue in office. If he gives me the VP slot, it is a good thing for Ekiti people even though, you cannot set out to say you want to be VP. But you people should not worry yourself about 2019 because nobody knows who will be alive in 2019 but mentioning my name for VP is good for Ekiti. I am qualified to be VP if it is the will of God. God is taking me to a higher place, how, I don’t know.”

President Buhari's epic response to Cameron's corruption comment on Nigeria.

To say Nigeria is a very corrupt country is a truism but to tag her the most corrupt country in the world will definitely get the President's attention. David Cameron, British Prime Minister, comments that Nigeria is fantastically corrupt, to that, President Buhari gave what I call an epic response when he said: “I’m not going to demand an apology from anyone, what I’ll demand is a return of assets.”

“By the end of our summit tomorrow, we should be able to agree on rules-based architecture to combat corruption. Corruption does not differentiate between developed and developing countries. It is a serious threat to good governance, peace and security, he said.

2016 budget: NASS slashes padding from N500bn to N75bn

President Muhammadu Buhari is warming up to receive a reworked copy of the 2016 budget any time this week from the National Assembly following the agreement by the lawmakers to remove most of the unbudgeted items they introduced into the fiscal document for pecuniary gains.

According to sources known to Vanguard, the lawmakers had realized that it was wrong for them to have usurped the functions of the executive by introducing items not contemplated by the Presidency into the budget and illegally transferring capital votes to such items. The source said that given the furore that had attended the budget, the National Assembly Committee on Appropriation and Finance had opted to drop its tough stance against the Presidency and remove the vexatious issues that made President Buhari to reject the budget.
