The British Council - The UK's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Women Affairs on Tuesday, 29th of November 2016 unveiled a building wrap, a work of British artist Laura Aldridge.

The British Council Director of the Arts, Ojoma Ochai who spoke extensively to the media during a media briefing said the work was inspired following a visit to the Nike Arts Centre in Abuja and a textile workshop with 35 women based in Abuja as part of the Go Woman Go project.

Speaking further at the event, Laura talked about her passion to take arts from the gallery to public places in order to make art work more visible for the public. The idea of art in public spaces is to stimulate awareness and debate about how public art provides new ways to experience the city, she said.

One of the key aim of the project is also to create new collaborations and strengthen relationships between Britain and Nigeria.

The building wrap pictured above is displayed on the headquarters of the Ministry of Women Affairs Building, currently under construction, on Ralph Shodeinde Street in Abuja' Central Business District.

The Honourable Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed and the Minister of Women Affairs Senator Aisha Alhassan, were some of the dignitaries that graced the occasion. See photos from the event below:
